I only knew him through Symphony Chorus and I always loved to hear him sing with his beautiful voice. He seemed to have had a wonderful life according to his obituary. "I am deeply saddened by the death of Nick. Hansen-Spear Funeral Directors are in charge of the arrangements. Nick's family honors his wishes, and they ask that in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or the Quincy Symphony Chorus or the Up at Down Country (for Down's Syndrome) through Hansen-Spear Funeral Directors. Nick did not want a public memorial service. Nick was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Norma Borkowski and Marge Klima. He will be dearly missed by all and will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. Nick loved spending time with his wife and family. Nick loved classical music and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Chicago Cubs. He served on the board of the YMCA from 1972-78 and was elected to the Quincy Notre Dame Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He was an active member of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra Board and served as Vice President from 1976-78, President from 1978-79, and Treasurer from 1981-85. Nick joined the Quincy Symphony Chorus in 1973 and sang with the chorus over 35 years. Nick was a 1944 graduate of Notre Dame High School where he played football and won a student contest to name the mascot 'The Raiders.' He attended Quincy College and then served in the U.S. Nick was born Jin Quincy, Illinois, the son of Nicholas A III and Edith Stroot Kohl. Kohl, IV, age 84, of 4629 Hidden Cove, Quincy, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at 8:40 am in his home. ![]()
